What an Accumulator Is

Combining two or more selections into one slip is what an accumulator is for. Instead of settling separate bets, every leg you add multiplies against the others, so a small stake on a five-leg acca can return far more than the same stake spread across five single bets on the same picks.

How the Math Stacks Up

Multiply the decimal odds of every leg together, then multiply that by your stake, and you get the potential return. Three legs at 1.80 each combine to roughly 5.83 — a $10 stake returns close to $58 if all three land, against roughly $18 total from staking $10 on each leg separately. The betslip does this math live as you build the ticket, so you always see the potential return before you confirm.

The Trade-Off: Hit Rate

Bigger potential returns come from a lower hit rate. Every leg has to win — one loser takes down the whole ticket, regardless of how the rest finished. A four-leg accumulator with an 80% chance on each leg still only wins around 41% of the time overall (0.8 to the fourth power). Stack enough legs onto one slip and even strong individual picks add up to a ticket that loses more often than it wins.

Mixing Sports and Markets
